O julgamento de Adriana da Costa Ribeiro, de 22 anos, também conhecida por "Drica", durou cerca de seis horas e terminou com a ré condenada a 14 anos e seis meses de prisão. Ela foi sentenciada por homicídio qualificado por não oferecer chances de defesa à sua ex-namorada Ana Paula Gomes dos Santos, que na época do crime tinha 15 anos.

O homicídio ocorreu em fevereiro de 2010, época em que ambas haviam terminado o relacionamento amoroso e tiveram várias brigas por isso. O julgamento é inédito na história da Justiça envolvendo violência doméstica porque a ré foi autuada com base na Lei Maria da Penha.

Por maioria dos votos, os jurados acolheram a tese sustentada pela promotoria, afirmando que o crime havia sido cometido por motivo fútil, visto que a acusada não admitiu o término do namoro, e porque a vítima estava mantendo um relacionamento amoroso com outra pessoa.

O promotor Franklin Lobato Prado, se referindo à sentença, disse que "o Ministério Público do Estado respeita a opção sexual de qualquer indivíduo e que o julgamento foi realizado com base no que regem as leis, pois nenhuma pessoa tem o direito de ceifar a vida de ninguém". Ele também acredita que o mesmo pensamento tenha sido adotado pelos jurados. Já o defensor público Alexandre Noronha, que promoveu a defesa de Adriana, preferiu não comentar o resultado do júri.
