Um pai que virou ativista LGBT contra a prática de bullying após o suicídio do filho adolescente deixou um bilhete de despedida no Facebook e também se matou, de acordo com informações obtidas durante um inquérito na Grã-Bretanha.
Roger Crouch, de 55 anos, foi encontrado pela esposa, Paola, após ter se enforcado na garagem de sua casa, no dia 28 de novembro do ano passado.
A investigação sobre sua morte concluiu, esta semana, que Roger nunca havia superado a dor do suicídio de Dominic, seu filho de 15 anos, um ano e meio antes.
A morte do rapaz, que teria sofrido com rumores de que era gay, fez com que Roger se tornasse uma figura importante nas campanhas contra o bullying no país, recebendo inclusive o prêmio de herói do ano da ONG Stonewall, de defesa dos direitos de Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais, Travestis e Transexuais em 2011.
Depressão
Segundo a esposa de Roger e mãe de Dominic, Paola Crouch, o marido continuou a sofrer variações de humor e surtos de depressão devido ao suicídio do filho.
'Havia muita morte em sua vida', disse ela.
Ao ouvir o depoimento de psiquiatras que disseram que seu marido havia sido 'tomado pela dor', Paola disse: 'Acho que é o que se poderia chamar, de uma forma antiquada, de um coração partido.'
Antes de se enforcar, Roger deixou uma mensagem no Facebook que dizia: 'Au Revoir (Até a vista, em francês), Adeus - ou talvez À Bientôt (Até logo, em francês).'
Durante a audiência sobre a morte dele, o responsável pelo inquérito, David Dooley, mencionou a campanha de Roger Crouch contra o bullying.
'Claramente, ele se dedicou muito à campanha por seu filho e por outros que teriam sofrido com bullying. Mas, no fim, ele acabou tomado pela dor devido à morte de seu filho. De acordo com as evidências, tenho certeza de que ele decidiu por fim à própria vida.'
'Verdade ou consequência'
Em maio de 2010, Dominic Crouch pulou de um prédio de seis andares, perto da escola onde estudava.
Uma investigação, seis meses depois, revelou que durante um jogo do tipo 'verdade ou consequência', em uma viagem escolar, Dominic havia beijado outro menino. Acredita-se que, depois disso, um vídeo do jogo tenha sido circulado na escola.
Dominic não havia mencionado para a família que estava sendo atormentado pelos colegas, mas em um dos bilhetes que deixou, o jovem escreveu: 'Querida família, Sinto muito mesmo pelo que estou prestes a fazer. 'Truth or consequence'In May 2010, Dominic Crouch jumped off a six story building near the school she attended.
An investigation, six months later, revealed that during a game of 'truth or dare', on a school trip, Dominic had kissed another boy. It is believed that, thereafter, a video game has been circulated in school.
Dominic had not mentioned to the family that was being tormented by their peers, but in one of the tickets left, the young man wrote: "Dear family, I'm so sorry for what I'm about to do. I have suffered much from bullying lately and a lot was said about me that is not true. '
