Travestis e transexuais debatem saúde e educação na UFMG ( Noticia ) - Transvestites and transsexuals struggling health and education at UFMG (News)

O dia 17 de maio é reconhecido internacionalmente como o Dia de Combate à Homofobia. Em Belo Horizonte, as discussões sobre o tema têm início com o 7º Encontro de Travestis e Transexuais da Região Sudeste, que ocorre entre 6 e 9 de maio, no Campus Pampulha da UFMG.

Com o tema “Gêneros, sexualidades e conhecimentos nas políticas públicas de saúde e educação", o Encontro traz palestras, mesas redondas e oficinas com grandes nomes da Academia, do Movimento Social e do Poder Público. Laerte Coutinho, cartunista, fará palestra no domingo, dia 6. A palestra e os demais eventos do domingo são abertos ao público.

“Travestis e transexuais ainda são invisíveis no Brasil. A ideia de promover os encontros na região sudeste nasceu em 2005 para trazer de maneira clara para a sociedade nossas reivindicações, mostrar que existimos e que temos direitos”, explica Liliane Anderson, uma das coordenadoras do evento e educadora social do Núcleo de Direitos Humanos e Cidadania LGBT da UFMG (NUH/UFMG).

Simultaneamente ao 7º Encontro Sudeste, ocorrerá, pela primeira vez no Brasil, o Encontro Nacional da Rede Trans Educ, que trará para a UFMG educadoras travestis e transexuais de todo o país. Na pauta de discussão, a atividade docente e diversidade sexual.

O evento encerra-se no dia 9, quarta feira, com uma visita ao Instituto Inhotim, em Brumadinho, na região metropolitana de BH. O passeio, além do caráter cultural, pretende conferir visibilidade a travestis e transexuais nos diversos contextos urbanos e de lazer. O 7º Encontro é organizado pelo Núcleo de Direitos Humanos e Cidadania LGBT da UFMG (NUH/UFMG) em conjunto com o Grupo Orgulho, Liberdade e Dignidade de Colatina (GOLD-Colatina/ES) e o Núcleo Trans do Centro de Luta Pela Livre Orientação Sexual (CELLOS-Trans).
