Uma das funções da moda é poder se expressar através do que usamos e não só sair por aí desfilando tendências. E exatamente por expressar uma opinião através de uma camiseta, um estudante de Ohio acabou se metendo em confusão na escola onde estuda.

Ao vestir uma camiseta com a frase “Jesus não é homofóbico”, que foi confeccionada justamente para incentivar a tolerância, Couch Maverick foi ameaçado de suspensão. Isso porque a direção da escola considerou a frase de “natureza sexual”, o que foi considerado inadequado e ofensivo por funcionários da escola.

O garoto de 16 anos resolveu então entrar com um processo contra e escola alegando que sua liberdade de expressão foi violada. Depois da atenção destinada ao caso, a escola resolveu ceder em partes e permitiu que o aluno vista a camiseta no próximo dia 20 de abril, dia em que é comemorado o Dia do Silêncio, quando acontecem protestos nacionais contra intimidação de estudantes LGBTs. No entanto Maverick seguirá com o processo, pois quer ter o direito de vestir a camiseta quando quiser em não apenas em um dia determinado.
