Assim como muitos do atual Executivo, Gleisi Hoffmann é reticente sobre os temas do aborto e da criminalização da homofobia, pesa também o fato de que a senadora se recusou a assinar e a integrar a Frente Parlamentar LGBT do Congresso Nacional.

Apesar dos dois fatos negativos no que diz respeito à comunidade LGBT e às mulheres, parte dos ativistas gays do Brasil já declarou considerar um avanço e um bom sinal a substituição de Palocci por Hoffmann. Enfatiza-se que, em um país tão machista e homofóbico como o Brasil, é um avanço ter duas mulheres como as principais mandatárias.
