Ao menos dois casais do mesmo sexo planejam ser os primeiros a se casar depois da meia-noite quando a lei que permite o casamento homoafetivo em Nova York passe a ter efeito.

Linda Mussman diz que vai se casar com sua companheira durante 35 anos, Claudia Bruce, logo depois da meia-noite. Kitty Lambert e Cheryle Rudd também querem se casar no mesmo horário em um parque ao lado das cataratas do Niagara.

A lei entrará em vigor no Estado no dia 24 de julho (domingo) e os cartórios irão abrir para receber os casais que pretendem conseguir licença para casar.

Mas os dois casais estão tomando as providências para que sejam dispensados da licença obrigatória de 24 horas e possam se casar imediatamente.

It will come into force in the State on July 24 (Sunday) and will open registries for couples who want to receive the license to get married.

But both couples are making arrangements to be exempt from the compulsory license, 24 hours and can marry immediately.
