A polícia religiosa da província indonésia de Aceh está às voltas com o caso de duas mulheres que, morando juntas, se casaram por pressão de vizinhos porque eles imaginavam que uma delas era homem, o que fazia o casal viver em pecado. Aceh é a única província da Indonésia que aplica a "sharia" (lei islâmica).

As mulheres, chamadas Nuraini e Rohani, foram pressionadas a se casar porque os vizinhos julgavam que Rohani era homem, por sua aparência e apelido masculino, Ranto. Depois da cerimônia, surgiram suspeitas de que Rohani fosse mulher e os moradores entregaram as duas à polícia no domingo.

"No livro do Profeta (Maomé), pessoas que cometem tal coisa devem ser decapitadas ou atiradas no mar, mas não temos isso nos nossos regulamentos", disse o chefe da polícia religiosa de Aceh, Muddasir.

A polícia religiosa fiscaliza o comportamento das pessoas, muitas vezes reprimindo o uso de roupas justas ou a convivência de casais não casados. Muddasir disse que sua equipe consultou códigos legais islâmicos mas não encontrou nada que regulamentasse os casamentos entre pessoas do mesmo sexo.

Ele informou que as duas mulheres foram detidas e que policiais e autoridades religiosas estão investigando maneiras de separá-las para sempre.
