O casal Fernando Figueiredo e Laci de Araújo quer deixar o Brasil por causa das ameaças que recebe desde 2008, ano em que os dois sargentos do Exército assumiram publicamente a orientação e o relacionamento. Eles entraram com um pedido de ajuda na Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos da Organização dos Estados Americanos (OEA) para obter segurança internacional, segundo o site Congresso em Foco.

Além das ameaças, Figueiredo e Araújo temem a crescente onda de crimes de caráter homofóbico que vem tomando o País. Eles se consideram visados por terem assumido a homossexualidade na mídia e por serem militares.

Eles dizem ter desistido de lutar pelos direitos nos órgãos públicos brasileiros e que a vontade de sair do País é para garantir "uma vida normal". Segundo eles, quem os ameaçou de morte continua a trabalhar no governo brasileiro e, por isso, questionam como pode haver uma solução.

A denúncia contra o Brasil à OEA foi feita em maio passado, com base nos problemas que a dupla enfrentou dentro do Exército. Araújo e Figueiredo dizem não ter preferência por nenhum país específico para viver, desde que o local seja seguro e aceite a relação deles.

O Exército preferiu não se manifestar sobre o assunto.
