Bagão Félix e João Cesar das Neves são dois dos principais impulsionadores de uma petição que pretende a revisão da lei do aborto, procriação medicamente assistida e igualdade no casamento.
Os apoiadores da petição alegam que estas leis, aprovadas nos últimos seis anos, são responsáveis por "corroer o tecido social do país".Isilda Pegado, presidente da Federação Portuguesa pela Vida, que criou a petição "Defender o Futuro", afirmou que essas leis tiveram do Presidente da República um veto ou uma comunicação alertando para as dificuldades que trazem à sociedade. A petição pretende a revogação, no todo ou em parte, dessas leis.
A petição surge quase como um contraponto ao progresso no respeito pelos direitos humanos, vivido por exemplo neste momento na França, e em Portugal nos últimos anos, apontando as leis citadas, bem como a lei do divórcio, como nefastas e por isso destruidoras do que ele chamam de "os pilares estruturantes da sociedade".
"As leis que têm vindo a corroer o tecido social do país foram sempre objeto da voz crítica do Presidente da República que, quer através do veto, quer através de mensagens ao Parlamento ou ainda por declarações ao país, indicou alguns dos erros em que incorriam. Urge pois atender de novo às suas razões", referem.
Os autores do documento e seus signatários dizem que o sentimento "dominante" na sociedade é de que o governo deve fazer alterações legislativas que reconheçam a "família" como fundamental para a organização social, fomento da economia e de solidariedade intergeracional.
João Teixeira Lopes, do Bloco de Esquerda, disse que esta petição é uma reação de quem está parado no tempo e até de um certo espírito vingativo ao sentido da mudança. Teixeira Lopes aponta o documento como uma tentativa de mobilizar as facções mais conservadoras, nomeadamente da igreja católica, assim como uma enorme inconformidade pela forma como a sociedade aceitou a mudança legislativa feita nos últimos anos.João Torres, secretário-geral da Juventude Socialista aponta a petição como um retrocesso civilizacional no qual os jovens portugueses não se revêem.
Na mesma linha Manuel Pizarro, candidato à Câmara do Porto e deputado do PS, aceita que numa sociedade democrática tudo se deve discutir mas não pode deixar de lamentar que em matéria de igualdade de direitos possa existir cidadãos que não se conformam com os avanços que a sociedade vai realizando. Referindo que seria inaceitável regressar à intolerância e a discriminação sobre a orientação sexual e identidade de gênero.
A petição reuniu, até o momento, mais de cinco mil assinaturas e o objectivo é pressionar o parlamento no sentido de rever ou mesmo revogar algumas dessas leis.
